SoundCloud is home to millions of songs, remixes, DJ sets, and podcasts you won't find anywhere else — but the app is built for streaming, not for keeping. If you want a track on your device to play offline, add to a personal playlist, or drop into your DJ software, you need to download it. This guide covers the quickest way to download SoundCloud songs as a clean MP3, how to grab the artist's original file when it's offered, and how to do it responsibly on any device.

Quick answer
Copy the track's share link, paste it into SoundsDown, press Download, then choose MP3 (or Original file when the artist has enabled it). The audio saves straight to your device — no app, no login.

What you can download from SoundCloud

SoundsDown works with anything that plays publicly on SoundCloud — original songs, remixes, bootlegs, long DJ mixes, beat tapes, and podcast episodes. It hands you the audio in one of two ways, depending on what the artist allows:

  • MP3. Always available for a public track. We take the best audio stream SoundCloud serves and give you a clean MP3 that plays on any phone, laptop, car stereo, or DJ app.
  • Original file. When the artist has turned on downloads for a track, you can grab the exact source file they uploaded — often a WAV or FLAC, sometimes an MP3 — at full quality.

Private tracks, and anything you can't play while logged out, aren't supported — SoundsDown only fetches public audio you'd be able to reach yourself.

Every download starts with the track's share link. Grabbing it takes a couple of taps on any device.

In the SoundCloud app (iPhone & Android)

  1. Open the track you want to save.
  2. Tap the Share button (the arrow) below the waveform.
  3. Choose Copy Link from the share sheet.

On soundcloud.com (desktop)

  1. Open the track on the SoundCloud website.
  2. Click Share, then copy the link — or simply copy the full URL from your browser's address bar.

Short on.soundcloud.com links work fine too — SoundsDown follows the redirect for you.

Step 2: Download the song with SoundsDown

To download a SoundCloud song, paste its link into SoundsDown and it resolves the audio directly, handing the file to your browser. Nothing is stored on our side, and you never have to log in.

  1. Open SoundsDown in any browser.
  2. Paste the copied link into the box and press Download.
  3. Wait a second or two while the track is fetched.
  4. When the result card appears, you'll see the artwork, the artist, and the available formats.
  5. Pick MP3 for a clean, universal file, or Original file if it's offered and you want the highest-quality source.
  6. The file saves to your device's Downloads.

Download SoundCloud songs on any device

You can download SoundCloud songs on any device. Because SoundsDown runs entirely in the browser, the steps are the same everywhere — only the way your device handles the finished file changes.

iPhone and iPad

Use Safari, paste the link, and tap Download. If iOS starts playing the audio instead of saving it, long-press the Download button and choose Download Linked File; the MP3 lands in the Downloads folder of the Files app, ready to move into your music app or share.

Android

Chrome and Samsung Internet both save the file with a single tap. It appears in your Downloads folder and the notification tray, and any music or file app can pick it up right away.

Windows and Mac

The flow is identical in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Click Download, choose your format, and the file saves to your default download directory — ready to drop into iTunes, Rekordbox, Serato, or any player.

MP3 vs. original file: which should you pick?

The result card shows whatever the track allows. Here's when to reach for each:

  • MP3 — the right choice for everyday listening. It's compact, plays literally everywhere, and is easy to sync across devices. Start here.
  • Original file — best when you want the highest fidelity for DJing, remixing, or archiving, and the artist has enabled downloads. Files can be large (a WAV can be 30–50 MB) but they're the true source.

Troubleshooting common issues

  • "Couldn't fetch." The track is probably private, deleted, or geo-blocked. Only public tracks you can play while logged out can be downloaded.
  • Only the MP3 option appears. That's normal — the original file only shows up when the artist turned on downloads for that track.
  • The audio plays instead of downloading (iPhone). Long-press the Download button and select Download Linked File.
  • A link from the app won't paste correctly. Open the track in a mobile browser and copy the URL from the address bar instead.

Saving a track for personal, offline listening is generally fine, and downloading tracks the artist has explicitly opened for download is exactly what that button is for. What crosses the line is re-uploading someone's work as your own, or using it commercially without permission — that runs into copyright and SoundCloud's terms. When in doubt, check the track's license and credit the artist. There's more detail in our overview of how SoundCloud licensing works below and on the MP3 tool page. On the safety side, SoundsDown only touches public audio, runs in your browser, asks for no login, and doesn't store the links you paste or the files you download.

Frequently asked questions

Is SoundsDown free?

Yes. It's completely free with no sign-up and no daily limit, so you can save as many public tracks as you like.

Do I need SoundCloud Go+ to download?

No. Go+ lets you save tracks for offline listening inside the SoundCloud app, but those files stay locked to the app. SoundsDown gives you a standalone MP3 you can keep and play anywhere, with no subscription.

Can I download a whole playlist at once?

Yes. Paste a playlist or album link into the SoundCloud playlist downloader and it lists every track in the set, each with its own download button, so you can save the whole playlist from one page.

What quality is the MP3?

We convert the best audio SoundCloud serves for the track into a clean MP3. For the absolute highest fidelity, use the Original file option when the artist offers it.

The bottom line

Downloading a SoundCloud song is really just a matter of grabbing the audio from the right source. Copy the track's share link, paste it into SoundsDown, and choose MP3 — or the Original file when it's offered — for a clean download in a couple of seconds, on any device, for free. Keep it to tracks you have the right to save, credit the artists who made them, and enjoy your offline library.
