DMCA & Copyright Policy
SoundsDown respects the intellectual property of others and expects our users to do the same. This page explains how to report copyright infringement, how to file a counter-notification, and what we do about repeat infringers.
1. Overview
2. How SoundsDown works (important context)
SoundsDown is an independent tool that helps users save publicly accessible SoundCloud tracks to their own devices. We are not affiliated with SoundCloud Global Limited & Co. KG.
We do not host, store, or maintain a library of the audio files themselves. When a track is downloaded, it is served from SoundCloud's own systems and passes to the user's device — the links you paste are processed on request and are not retained. Because we do not store the content, the most effective and permanent removal usually comes from the source platform. We will still act on valid notices by disabling access through our service where we are able to.
3. Filing a copyright infringement notice
To be effective under the DMCA (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)), your written notice must include all of the following:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or a representative list, if multiple works).
- Identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it — normally the exact URL(s) involved.
- Your contact information: full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
Incomplete notices may delay our response. If you are unsure whether something infringes your rights, consider seeking legal advice before filing.
4. Where to send your notice
Email your complete notice to [email protected], or use the DMCA takedown form below, which pre-fills an email with the required statements. You can also reach us through our contact page.
5. What happens after you file
We review valid notices promptly. Where the material is within our control, we may disable access to it through SoundsDown while we investigate. We may also forward your notice — including your contact details — to the affected user and, where relevant, to the source platform so the content can be addressed at its origin.
6. Counter-notification
If you believe your material was disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notification. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g), it must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed or disabled, and the location where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the U.S., any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the party who filed the original notice.
Send counter-notifications to the same address: [email protected].
